Hello. We’re Silver Street Ceilidh Band. London’s finest ceilidh band. We play irresistible music for dancing.
We play for weddings, birthdays, festivals and corporate celebrations all over the country and beyond. Although nominally a London ceilidh band, we’re happy to travel.
Our standard lineup is fiddles, accordion and keys or guitar. We make a fun, high-octane sound based around driving dance melodies, punctuated by imaginative rhythms – guaranteed to get you (and your guests) up on your feet dancing.
We started in 2015, led by caller and fiddle player Martin Clarke. Since then we’ve played at weddings and parties across the country, and some of the UK’s top folk festivals.
Our repertoire is drawn from across the UK and Ireland, but has a distinctive Northumbrian flavour, as we’ve drawn heavy influence from one of our favourite dance bands, Hexham-based The Hedgehog’s Skin – with two of our original band members being from there, growing up going to the Hexham Christmas Ceilidh.
Silver Street is a nod to Durham, where original band members Martin and Joe both used to go busking, competing for space on busy Saturday afternoons.
A high-point in the band’s history to date was playing the big New Year’s Eve ceilidh at Cecil Sharp House, home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS).
